About Me
Ambika Gurung was born on November 21,1957 (7th Mangsir, 2014 BS) in East Charikot 2,Fusku.Father Bir Bahadur Gurung and mother Krishna Kumari Gurung’s distinguished upbringing and teaching made her an able graduate. Ambika grew up in a family where people have been indulged in the military career since the time of her grandfather Bhakta Bir Gurung Jung Bahadur Rana . To carry on the family profession, she also worked as an officer in the government of His Majesty the King.
Ambika, who was also running a bus service under the name ‘Ambika Travel privet limited’, came to Arlington, Virginia, USA in 1994 after her husband was offered a working visa from the United States. After 17 years of government service in Nepal, she came to the United States and started working at Pre- School, where she worked as a lead teacher for 14 years and later as an assistant director in the same school for 5 years.She now runs her own music company, Bhavsagar Entertainment LLC, and runs the Bhavsagar Creations YouTube channel. The Bhavsagar Creations YouTube channel is just made for children.
She says that she published a poem called ‘Vidambana’ in Nepal’s Chetna magazine 35 years ago. In the same year, her lyrics story ( Geeti kathaa) were also published on Radio Nepal .Then finally in 2015, a collection of poems titled ‘Bhav Sagar’ 1 was published, and immediately in 2016, ‘Bhav Sagar part 2’ was also published. In the same year, she released Bhavsagar Geeti Album Part 1 and Bhavsagar Geeti Album Part 2.
Apart from this, many songs and poems written by her have continued to appear in books and CDs and now that she is retired, she says that she is determined to devote her full time to the service of language and literature. Among those few people, Ambika is one who pledged to spend time promoting language and literature even after retiring in the diaspora. It is because of people like her that Nepali language and literature seem to prosper in the coming days. We Hindus have the old tradition of going to Kashi and Haridwar after reaching old age but Ambika’s will promote Nepalese language and literature for her inner peace would really be a good deed.

The level of satisfaction that comes with writing Nepali literature is so profound and way more precious than any riches in this world. Even the millionaire people of the diaspora feel void in their hearts without literature in their life. Literature serves to heal immigrants that are separated from Nepal and it is also a way of aristocratic, civilized culture. Likewise giving and taking services through literature is also one of our civilized cultures. So Ambika’s future seem exemplary.
The role of Bhav Sagar’s part 1 has been written by scholar Bulu Mukarung. Ambika’s lyric poems are so beautiful and Bulu’s hard work and imagination made it even better. Her poems are songs and songs are poems. This is Ambika’s style. Bulu has also done a great job in ‘Bhav Sagarma Tarangit Bhawana’.
Poetry is like flying in the sky of imagination. Ambika is a poet who evaluates pain and love in poetry. I am not trying to say that she wrote poems written according to the philosophy of the ephemeral, but her ephemeral poems have come naturally. She is a momentary poet who plays with time and nature in her poems and gives it a deep meaning. She seeks the context of love, humanization of nature, and the meaning of momentary life. Even though Ambika did not declare herself a momentary poet, the moment is given great importance in her poetry. We can find the realization of the meaning of life in her poems. Pain is temporary. Living life is the moment of survival. So, she does not forget such moments. Poetry has given importance to the moment. Love affair, ephemerals, wandering in nature have become her tendencies. The poetess never misses the moments. Life is the love of the moment. In some of her poems, love, nature, and moments have come together hand in hand.
To sum up, Ambika Gurung, who has pledged to continue in Nepali language and literature even after retirement, is a wonderful poetess whose poems are mostly based on the meaning of momentary life, love, and nature.
